Meet Your Presenter: Gilbert D. Melchor, MS, LPC-S

LPC-S | 30+ Years of Clinical & Supervisory Excellence

With over three decades of experience navigating the complexities of community mental health and private practice, Gilbert brings a wealth of clinical wisdom and administrative expertise to the stage. As a Texas State Board-approved Supervisor since 2004, he has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between academic theory and high-stakes clinical reality.

A Legacy of Clinical Leadership

Gilbert has spent 30 years serving the most vulnerable populations in North Texas. Most recently, they served as the Clinical Manager for a large metropolitan outpatient clinic in Dallas, overseeing care for adults with severe and persistent mental illness and children with severe emotional disturbances.

His leadership experience includes:

  • Clinical Oversight: Managing clinical managers across four adult outpatient clinics and an after-hours crisis operation.

  • Program Development: Directing community behavioral health clinics, including specialized programs for youth-at-risk within the Dallas Juvenile Probation Department.

  • Innovation: Integrating mental health IT solutions and supervising Certified Peer Counselors to enhance service delivery at Metrocare Services.

Educational Foundation & Private Practice

A proud graduate of the University of Houston (Undergraduate) and Texas A&M University (M.S. in Counseling), Gilbert began his clinical journey in 1992. After completing an internship at Group Circle Counseling under Dr. Juanita Kirby, he transitioned into a successful private practice, where he had provided transformative therapy.

"My therapeutic approach is rooted in person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and gestalt modalities. Whether in a boardroom or a therapy room, the goal is always positive, sustainable outcomes."

Passion for Mentorship

Beyond direct care, Gilbert is a dedicated LPC Supervisor. Since 2004, he has mentored countless LPC Associates from their days as Master's level students to becoming fully licensed colleagues. This passion for "growing the profession" informs every presentation, ensuring that attendees walk away with practical, supervisory-level insights.
