Texas LPCs! Are You Aware of the Recent Board Accepted Amendments?

Hello LPCs!

In case you were not aware, at the June 6, 2025 Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors Board Meeting, proposed amendments were accepted regarding the following:

  • 22 TAC §681.72 – Required Application Materials: Removes the doctoral level supervision graduate course and 40-clock hour supervision course expiration provisions required for supervisor status applications, making it easier for applicants to qualify as supervisors.

  • 22 TAC §681.140 – Continuing Education: Clarifies the nature of professional development required for LPCs working with unique populations, ensuring ongoing competency in serving diverse clients.

  • 22 TAC §681.91 – LPC Associate License: Clarifies rule language regarding supervised LPC-Associate practice.  Most importantly,

    • within 30 days of changing or adding supervisors, an LPC Associate must, 1) submit to the Council a new Supervisor Agreement  Form for that supervisor, and, 2) notify their current supervisor(s);

    • If an LPC Associate is informed of a pending complaint against them, the LPC Associate must notify each supervisor of the complaint;

    • If an LPC Associate receives a remediation plan, the Associate must provide a copy of the remediation plan to any other current or future supervisors, as well as any relevant documentation regarding successful completion of the plan.

  • 22 TAC §681.93 – Supervisor Requirements: Supervisor documentation

    • A signed and dated copy of the Council’s supervisor agreement form for the LPC Associate;

    • The date and duration of each supervisor session;

    • A record of all locations at which the LPC Associate will practice.

These will be published in the TAC, and the Consolidated Rulebook will be updated soon. Monitor the Board's website here for updates.
